Sindh High Court is these days listening to a app. decade old case against Nawaz Sharif when on 12th October 1999 according to Ex-President General (R) Pervaiz Musharaf he ordered to divert his flight which was scheduled to come from Columbo, Srilanka to Karachi, Pakistan to divert to any other airport. The General accussed the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of "hijacking" his plane and use this as an excuse to overthrow Nawaz Sharif Government. Though I am not a supporter of Nawaz Sharif and I have favoured some decisions of Musharaf (I am an old Supporter of PPP) but still I think this is a ridiculous case. Nawaz Sharif was the Prime Minister (though how elections were rigged to put him on that position is another story) of the country and he had every rght to sack an army chief whom he thinks is disloyal to him (though the method use was cowardly but again that is not the point of topic under discussion). Also he had every right to make deecisions regarding how to run the country as this is the job for which he is appointed but also then he also have to suffer the consequnces of it. But I dont think even the court has anything to do with the decision made by then Prime Minister or we want a system like Turkey (though we are working approximately the same way) where anything can be ruled out by Court just because they don't like it. I think there was no issue in the decision as the decision was made by the PM who has the power to do so constitutionaly and whatever the order was (still there is confusion that the order was to wait for the army or to divert it to Nawabshah) but in both cases this is not highjacking of the plane.
On the side note if someone might noted that PMLN is arguing very furiously about the release of Presidential Pardon in the matter, which was given to Sharif Brothers in many cases to clear their name, as they cannot afford a scandel like NRO which I am hoping they want to use in next elections. So to meet their political needs they have to argue against it as Sharif brothers previously lost much grounds when they left the country in a deal with Musharaf when USA, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon were guranteers. So my friend its all politics.
